Summary
Ahhh 'My Hero Academia', where does one start with this anime. Maybe lets start with in our opinion, it may be the greatest anime of all time. Strong words we know. Some of you may be reading this enraged at our blasphemy or in grinning in pure agreement, trust us we know the gravity of those words but hear us out as we don’t say these words lightly.
There are various elements to consider when reviewing an anime. When you have a diverse media format, which in itself has its own genre breakdown. It can become near impossible to find a show which ticks the boxes for everyone. For us, My Hero Academia does this time and time again. Why…. simply because of how it makes us feel.
My Hero follows a typical shonen troupe with a young teenager with dreams to become the best (in this case a hero). In itself, this concept is far from unique. In fact we would go as far to say it is probably the most common anime story construct, so what makes My Hero the best is how this is executed. Instead of having a protagonist born with demon powers, legendary genetics or ridiculous luck, we have a completely normal kid. In fact the lack of power is one of the most unique things about Izuku. We see a character who truly wants to be a hero and see a greater story of his journey to be able to do so. Something that is very difficult to balance is to have a protagonist so weak, yet be able to rise through the ranks of a superhero and supervillain infested world. Without spoiling much Izuku does receive various powers and abilities from different circumstances, (mainly from becoming the number 1 hero’s successor) and how these events unfold tell an beautiful tale of the struggles of being hero. Combined with BONES outstanding animation, jaw breaking fight scenes and the unbelievable soundtrack composed by Yûki Hayashi we have a legendary anime recipe.
Now is the anime flawless, absolutely not, how could it be. Even Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, which is widely considered the number 1 anime in the world still has plot holes and minor issues such as plot armour. What makes My Hero again unique is that it almost embraces these issues and makes in part of the universe. For every power up our hero’s get, which might be considered plot armour has a negative drawback that allows the characters powers to evolve and develop throughout the story those expanding our characters development.
Conclusion
So maybe we have not convinced you fully our reasons for giving My Hero Academia the best anime of all time slot. That’s great, because it means you have another piece of content that can rival My Hero and that is great for us (more anime awesomeness to bask in). However if you’re on the edge on whether to dive into the hero universe, heed our words on this.; You will not be disappointed. My Hero in our eyes is the greatest hero’s tale to ever grace our TV screens. For one simple reason, there are moments that had us on the edge of seat. Shouting at the TV and begging our characters to get back up in brutal slug fests. Nostalgia hit right there, going back to the Dragonball Z days when Goku asked for our energy. We would stand on the sofa and scream at the top of our lungs, absolutely terrifying and worrying our parents.
We can’t explain for obvious spoiler reasons why these events made us feel this way. But for us those moments and those emotions are way we feel so connected to anime, and the anime community. We care about these characters and what happens to their worlds. No other show has made us so immersed and care for what would happen. And this is why we award My Hero Academia the greatest anime of all time title.
